The Scarlet Letter

Saw the korean movie on DVD last week, The Scarlet Letter. This movie is banned in Singapore. It's about a detective in charge of crimes of violence, with three women: obedient cellist wife and mistress having the opposite image of his wife and the victim of a murder case. If there is a conclusion, it is that in order to love someone we need to pay the price. As the film is closing to an end, the shocking secrets of the three women are revealed one by one accompanied by an unexpected twist.

The detective is leading actor Han Suk Kyu, which I found quite charismatic and attractive although he is not the typical good-looking hunk. Incidentally this movie was the last film for the mistress played by Lee Eun Ju (girl in centre), who committed suicide in Feb 2005. It was believed the movie was the contributing factor in the depression that enveloped her in the months prior to her suicide. Lee was by some reports very uncomfortable with the sexually explicit nature of her role in The Scarlet Letter. Such sad ending in real and reel life.
