The Price of Blood

I read this story somewhere, and it left a huge imprint on my conscience:

A student was meditating in Ajaan Fuang's presence when- in a spasm of mindlessness-she slapped a mosquito that was biting her arm. Ajaan Fuang commented: "You charge a high price for your blood, don't you? The mosquito asks for a drop, and you take its life in exchange."

Lesson to learn:
Negative karma doubles everyday when it is not purified. From being very light, it can become very heavy, negative karma. For instance, when we kill a mosquito we don't have a bad conscience, so we do not purify ourselves and do not confess. But after fifteen days, the tiny act of killing that mosquito has expanded so that it is equal to the negative karma of killing a human being - very heavy karma indeed. It is the same with other negativities. For example, the heaviest karma are created with the mind and when this happens, it increases in the same way. So there is a huge need to purify and accumulate merits in order to avoid suffering."

That girl

My staff, D, left my company almost 2 months ago. D gave me a beautiful set of violet necklace and ring as a farewell gift. She left me a note: "Here I am, writing a letter to you, to express my appreciation for whatever you have done for me for the past 9 months. No words can describe how I feel. So far, you are the best superior I ever have and one of the kindest soul I have ever met. Oh gosh, am I going mushy here? Whatever it may be, I meant it. :) PS. I just wanna say sorry if I ever made you angry in the past 9 months."

I am so touched by this sweet girl. I actually doted her, although I never really showed my favourtism openly. She is a good worker with a passion for life. I hope she does well in her new-found passion - teaching. Bless you, girl. We will meet again.
