“My door is always open”, the boss said with a smile. But he did not know that a literally open door can be as welcoming to his staff, as it can be intimidating - because while it meant he is open to them, some staff prefer privacy away from the boss - separation by a closed door while they work. While the open door put some minds at ease, it brought some tension to others.
Of course, it wasn't particularly the boss's fault, or any particular staff‘s, or even the door’s - it only meant that the same thing is perceived by different people differently. Just perception at play. Sometimes, an open door is just an open door - it might not mean anything much, if anything at all. It could just mean the boss does not like a closed door. - by Moonpointer
