Why is a Singapore restaurant selling dog meat?

I saw this piece of news which someone tweeted from a link in Hardwarezone forum. Apparently a shop, Song Hua Jiang Restaurant, (Address: Blk 350 Jurong East Ave 1 #01-1233 Singapore 600350), is selling braised dog meat as one of their dishes.

I did a little search. Located near the Chinese Garden MRT station, Song Hua Jiang Restaurant purportedly serves authentic Dong Bei Chinese cuisine.  This is their website I found. I believe it is operated by a PRC, a Chinese national. He is Mr Song Yu Ran, a chef in a village called Song Hua Jiang for 19 years. Over here, he whips up authentic Harbin Chinese dishes. Their menu confirmed there is "Braised Dog Meat, Tofu and Dry Cabbage".

Can someone tell me if this is legal, because this is the first time I heard dog meat being sold in Singapore? I believe this dish might be "imported" from China. Question is, what is the source of dog meat. Where did they managed to obtain dog meat and how were they killed? Can AVA and SPCA look into this?

I am truly disturbed. The influx of "foreign talents" that we witness taking root in our country, bringing with them their culture, cuisine etc...  To put it simply, in another 20, 50, 100 years time, would Singapore be influenced and become like China? I certainly hope not.  Something is wrong somewhere, don't you think?

  1. Just because one stall is selling dog meat, doesn't mean we're gonna become like China. And if we're looking into 50 or a 100 years into the future, I think China itself would've changed as well..

  2. To the above, ONE STALL? You sure there's only ONE stall selling that? I'm not sure.

Most of the times I feel like I'm living in China now.
I have people asking if I can speak Chinese, saying that I should speak Chinese to them because I'm a Chinese.
    & the list goes on....

  3. I think its just the name of the dish. They maybe use other ingredient which make it taste like dog meat. Just like in normal hawker centre, they sell deer meat but actually they are using chicken meat to do it..

  4. This is not the only restaurant found in Singapore. I was told by someone that there were other stores in Geylang & Havelock area too. You will never find them unless you got lobang, cos they only sell to their special customs when ever it is available.

  5. This is foul! Where are they getting the meat from? If I ever lose my dog, I don't want to have to worry about him being eaten!

  7. Eating dog meat is sinful, it's is unacceptable so if this restaurant is proven to be selling dog meat, then it must be closed down and the owner should face jail term for it.

  8. Yes, get this people out of our country and back to where they came from. There they can eat whatever they want to. This is too much... Starting business in Singapore and yet still dare to sell dog meat. What is worst is that it is openly available.

  9. I wonder if AVA knows about this. As a dog owner in Singapore, it makes me a bit worried.

Um, if I'm not mistaken, pigs, cows, chicken and fish are animals. Since you appear to be speaking for the whole of Singapore, don't let people reading this think that we're a nation of vegetarians, ok? kthnxbai
