It was fortunate we had our reunion dinner 2-3 weeks earlier, because we would never have expected that on reunion day today, my father would not be with us. He's in hospital recuperating. We are with him everyday. This episode made me see my father in a different light; he's a different person every day, but overall more docile than his usual self. It has been a whirlwind 2 weeks in and out of the hospital.
I'm a little overwhelmed with work in the office, daily trips to the hospital and last minute spring cleaning at home. Very happening. It's going to be a hectic February too. I'm so looking forward to the Horse (technically the Horse does not arrive tomorrow on the 1st day of Chinese New Year, but rather on 4 Feb which is Li Chun 立春). All along I do not like snake years, especially the past year. So.... irritating and ferocious Snake, quick get lost!
Here was our 8 course dinner in a teochew restaurant.
Lo Hei abalone!
Ngoh Hiang (wu xiang)
Spinach with 3 types of egg
The signature pork ribs.
The steamed fish was huge, tasted like cod fish.
Oyster omelette
To complete the dinner, was longevity noodles.
Dessert was Orh Nee ala typical teochew dessert.
Nonetheless, mom cooked a simple dinner today. I have not been having a proper dinner these couple of weeks, just snacks or simply no appetite. So our simple dinner before going to hospital today tastes heavenly....
Braised duck with chestnuts
Homemade ngoh hiang
And radish soup with cuttlefish cheese balls.
Anyway.....
To all my readers, have a Happy Huat Year!!!
