Before I go out for further drinks and countdown, I am actually kinda sick since Christmas but no one knows or cares. Splitting headache. Before the new year kicks in, I am leaving 2007 on a very very sad note, much as I hate to. Sometimes what we wanted or what we planned for just did not happen. Sometimes what you set out to achieve just did not materialise. Sometimes people we love so much leave us with more remorse and grief. Sometimes people we love just left us suddenly. It's been a roller coaster ride towards the tailend of 2007. In some way, I am glad I am finally outta 2007. I am not exactly keen on 2008 which is an unknown mystery to me. I know that one of my resolution is, I shall not be too nice to everyone I meet, and especially those I care about. The more you care, the more hurt you receive. I have always believe in being the giver rather than taker. But no matter how noble I hope to be, sometimes I feel being loved is still better than to love. Sometimes loving a dog is better. Because at least it appreciates and reciprocate your love and show it really is happy because of your existance. Yup, nothing beats the sudden realisation that I have done nothing, that I am actually "nothing". This suddenly dawned upon me. This suddenly woke me up. Everything I ever did was nothing. In the eyes of some, I am actually nothing. I must have been 2007's most greatest fool. Such irony to realise this on the very last day of this goddamn year.

Muffy!

The star of the Christmas party was of course Muffy, who charmed us, played with us, snuggled with us, and the one honoured with the most shots.

Berry Rich Christmas!

Spent a nice and enjoyable Christmas day with my buddies, Rich Friend and Jas at Rich Friend's house. Rich Friend cooked us a perfectly nice cosy meal. We had Roast Pepper with Mascarpone Cheese Soup for starters. The taste was heavenly and first time I tasted this soup. Then she grilled the breast meat chicken which turned out to be so tender and fragrant with her secret recipe. We also had Portobello Mushroom with stuffed tomato and mushroom with mozarella cheese on top. In addition potato salad with yoghurt instead of mayonnaise, sprinkled with roasted bacon, as well as greens for salad. For the side she also baked pastries stuffed with sauteed mushrooms. Very yummy. We ordered the blackforest cake from Charles and had it with coffee during tea time. We chatted, cooked, played with Muffy her dog, and watched DVD, ate and drank and chatted and lazed around. Turned out to be a pretty nice quiet Christmas. How often do we have a good friend cook something for us? Thanks, Rich Friend!

"I Am Flower, I Not Bear!"

After my feast and slight hangover past midnight last night, I set down to decorate my bear for my office friendly competition. Last minute work, and I was done in about an hour's time, with whatever stuff I can get my hands on, and my "pot of bear" is ready. I sewed the leaves onto the bear and hid him behind wooden flowers. Abit slipshod work I must say. But considering I was having a splitting headache and hangover, and with last minute "efficiency", I think I did quite well. Hiak Hiak.
There were bears bears bears everywhere in the office. Quite a fun sight! Fellow colleagues dressed their bears to the nines. So of course I wasn't the winner this year. The winning entry went to Captain Bear On A Rocking Horse, entirely 100% handmade, sewn, painted, cut, coloured, everything from scratch. Haha, and this is the winner! Merry Christmas, everyone!
Ho ho ho!

Our little Christmas gathering this year without the entire entourage present, but we still had fun, cosy dinner and lots of catching up to do.

Christmas outpour
Think this year is the most "no mood" of Christmas for me. Where is the excitement of buying gifts and giving them? Has it become a commercialised event in rainy Singapore? The only "snow" we feel are the droplets, drizzle, downpour of rain, coupled with thunderstorms. Thats the closest we got to feeling Christmassy. I have not finished buying the Xmas gifts, I have not started working on the teddy bear dress up for my office celebration/ competition. I have not done enough to prepare for my family Xmas gathering. I have been preoccupied with thinking about the-end-of-the-year-and-what-have-I-done. I have not bought a birthday gift for my niece which is early January. I have not gotten my keys to my new house. And I am concerned with a friend who is behaving differently. I had been pretty excited for the past 2 weeks prior Christmas. But the recent spate of incidents made this Christmas an anti-climax experience, that made me wish, this will pass and be done with faster.

Lama Tsongkhapa
I seemed to be having religious dreams frequently nowadays. On the wee morning of 4 Dec last week, I had a long dream. I cant remember the front part except I was with Miss Piggy and some other friends.
Towards the end of the dream as Miss Piggy and me were walking to some place, from far, I saw the side view of a very very huge statue of Lama Tsongkhapa which was about 8 storeys high. His statue was painted very colourful with his robes, in the sitting position. There were many many lamas around his statue, making prostrations. I recognised it was Lama Tsongkhapa because of the yellow pointed hat he was wearing.
I woke up thinking, hmmm.... why did I dream of Lama Tsongkhapa? Then almost immediately I received 2 sms from Drophenling and Amitabha Buddhist Center respectively. That day 4 Dec was Lama Tsongkhapa's Day!! And I didn't know about it at all. It was very auspicious to offer lights on that day.
So in the evening I went to Drophenling for the special puja to Lama Tsongkhapa, Guru Puja and Tsog offering. Then the most unusual thing happened. Just as we were about to start the puja, a huge bat flew into the prayer hall and circled around near the altar a few rounds before flying off. And also, just when we were about to finish the puja, the bat appeared again and also circled around the altar a few times before flying away. The senior Geshela said that it was a very very auspicious sight, marking a very special day.
Lama Tsongkhapa (1357-1419) was a very great lama who attained enlightenment after his death by achieving an illusory body instead of bardo. He founded the Ganden Monastery and began the tradition of the Ganden Throne Holder (Ganden Tripa) being the head of the Gelug order. His biography can be found here.

I cant explain how happy I was to have this dream which coincided with Lama Tsongkhapa's day. It is something real special and I am glad to have the connection with him.

Fatty Weng Hor Fun
This Hor Fun (fried noodles) from Fatty Weng Coffeeshop is quite popular. It comes wrapped in "opeh" leave. Sometimes after my prayer session on Saturday evenings, I will buy this back for dinner or supper. The kway teow itself is very soft, mixed with fish cake, pork, liver and veggie, chopped green chilli and with the special taste and smell from the leave. Each packet costs S$5.

Instant comfort too

Some people eat porridge only when they are sick. But I love porridge. Mom and Grandma used to cook for us when we were kids minced pork porridge. They chopped and minced the pork, marinate them with some sesame oil and soya sauce and throw them into the pot of plain porridge, and boiled for a while. Dont know why it used to taste so nice. Maybe we have not had it for such a long time, that once a while when Mom cooks this again, I am so happy. Another pure comfort food.
Instant comfort

Sometimes when I am depressed, or when sick of outside food, or just have a craving, I will open a packet of instant noodles. I will mix some sesame oil with garlic chilli sauce in a plate. Then I will boil a small pot of water. Then add in all the oil and packet of flavour into the pot. Throw the noodles in and bowl for 3 minutes and quickly drain the noodles from the water before they get soggy and mix them well into the plate of sauce (add veggies or meat if desire). Normally I prefer my instant noodles plain. Continue cooking the soup, break an egg or two into the pot. The egg is a must for me. Eat it when it is still hot. Ahh... comfort food.

Have You Ever
I am normally not familiar with Westlife's songs, but I like this one.
Have You Ever
Have you ever loved somebody so much it makes you cry?
Have you ever needed something so bad you can't sleep at night?
Have you ever tried to find the words but they don't come out right?
Have you ever? Have you ever?
Have you ever been in love been in love so bad
You'd do anything to make them understand
Have you ever had someone steal your heart away
You'd give anything to make them feel the same
Have you ever searched for words to get you in their heart
But you don't know what to say and you don't know where to start
Have you ever found the one you've dreamed of all your life?
You'd do just about anything to look into their eyes?
Have you finally found the one you've given your heart to
Only to find that one won't give their heart to you
Have you ever closed your eyes and dreamed that they were there
And all you can do is wait for that day when they will care
What do I gotta do to get you in my arms, baby?
What do I gotta say to get to your heart
To make you understand how I need you next to me
Gotta get you in my world 'cause, baby, I can't sleep
Have you ever loved somebody so much it makes you cry?
Have you ever needed something so bad you can't sleep at night?
Have you ever tried to find the words but they don't come out right?

Wanton mee

I tried this Wanton Noodle with Dumpling Soup at Haig Road Market. I like the fried wanton version. The Chao Sao is very tender. If the noodles were a little more "kew" then it would be more ideal. They were quite generous with the big dumplings. Satisfying meal.
