This is the APA Award 2008 Exhibition being held in NAFA (Nanyang Academy of Fine Art). This exhibition presents the results of a public competition sponsored by the Japan's Advertising Photographers' Association. The display of 96 works demonstrates the alluring prowess and influence of advertising photography as a medium of communication.
Ms Bridget Tracy Tan, Director of Art & Corporate Knowledge, NAFA, said: “Our persistent engagement with the Japanese aesthetic gives us much to reflect on, as over 90 works of leading advertising photographers arrive on our shores and into our gallery space. From anime, manga, graphic arts to Zen, ukiyo-e and contemporary photography, iconoclasts in aspects of Japanese life and culture have proliferated popular culture in Singapore. One significant thread that appears throughout is the natural vibrancy that connects spiritually to a hidden aesthetic, a quiet thirst for life that demonstrates knowing how people imagine, live, work and play. The sensory palette of Japanese art and culture is richly intertwined with both nature and artific. It is hoped that our students will benefit from exposure to the fullness of the Japanese approach and aesthetic, but also find themselves in the imaginative labyrinth of Japanese culture and civilization, that regardless, continues to create impactful waves in the realms of our art, our lives."
The exhibition is on till 17 March 2009.
