An idyllic day out for the kids in East Coast Parkway. I never knew there is so much calm about the sea, I never knew beautiful shots are all around, if you can "see" them and can capture them. I never knew there are so many people who go there to find solace for their tired/hurt soul. I never knew quality time is what you made of it. We would never remember what happened at work, but we will always remember those moments away that we will treasure most, perhaps at the end of our twilight years. We will always remember the rainbows we saw, rather than the thunder storms before that.

My little growing up girl

On top of that, she has also sat for the GEP (Gifted Education Program). We are not sure if she can make it. I heard they will choose only 500 students out of 2000 to be in this program. Her mommy said if she can make it, she will have a new mobile phone of her own. But to me, whether she will be accepted in the program or not, I am already very proud of her, being among the 2000 students selected from the whole of Singapore to sit for the qualification test.
I have been wanting to give her a special surprise gift, be it for her exams, or Xmas or her birthday in January. But I have been putting it off because her mommy is against it. So I guess for now, I will put it on hold, till when the situation allows, and when I am able to give it, hopefully within the coming next 2 months.

His Eminence Lati Rinpoche - Oct 2008
I am truly happy to have received so many blessings from His Eminence Kyabje Lati Rinpoche and his entourage of 28 lamas during these 3 days of powerful pujas and empowerments. I look forward to the continuing program in the center in the coming weeks, while Rinpoche is still here. This opportunity is so hard to come by as inviting Rinpoche here in future may not be easy as he is already 88 years old and travelling is quite tedious for him. I really appreciate his presence and efforts in coming to Singapore to bless us. He is truly an enlightened being, a learned master and one of my very precious gurus. May Rinpoche has a long and healthy life so as to benefit many more sentient beings who were touched by him and the Dharma.
Also, I am so glad to have made a friend during this short short 3 days. May we all learn from each others' problems and strengths and weaknesses as we travel the path of the Dharma. Om mani padme hum!!!
We cross seas of possibility
We dream dreams of our shared destiny
Aloft upon a heavenly breeze.

Maitreya Buddha 1000 Offerings Puja & Initiation
Finally Day 3, the grand finale which we were all waiting for - The 1000 Offerings Puja & Initiation of Maitreya Buddha. This was what I was personally looking forward to for a long time, as I wanted to have the connection with Maitreya Buddha, and Lati Rinpoche was so compassionate to specifically request to confer the empowerment for everyone of us as well as to personally conduct the important ritual during the Maitreya offerings puja.Buddha Maitreya is the next Buddha after Buddha Shakyamuni. He is the 5th Buddha and is the embodiment of the loving kindness of all Buddhas. According to the text, there will come a time when the teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni will no longer exist, and beings' minds will be increasingly obscured by emotional afflictions and unhappiness. For thousands of years, beings will degenerate and misfortune will continue to grow, fraught by calamities, and their lifespans wil decrease to only ten years old.
At that time, driven by overwhelming compassion, Maitreya will manifest in the world as a great spiritual teacher, demonstrate the path of virtue and inspire countless beings by spreading the teaching of loving kindness. As the beings gradually abandon their delusions and negative actions, their lifespan increases, and after many ages, the life expectancy of humans will grow enormously and then slowly decrease again, until the human lifespan is about a hundred years.
Lati Rinpoche planted the seed of karmic connections with Buddha Maitreya during the puja, so that we can become Maitreya's disciples and receive his teachings directly, when Buddha Shakyamuni's doctrine has degenerated in this world.
The 7-Limb Offerings include:
1. Water - offering in mouth of holy beings
2. Water- offering for washing legs of holy beings
3. Flower - offering for pleasure of sight
4. Incense
5. Butterlamp - offering to destroy the darkness of ignorance
6. Perfume - offering for pleasure of scent
7. Torma - offering of ritual cake
8. Music
For the few thousands of people who were so blessed to receive this initiation, we should all rejoice, that we have received the blessings and guidance from Buddha Maitreya, the coming Buddha.
Om may meh tri yee soha
Om ma-tee ma-tee mri-tee soha
Om mohi mohi maha mohi soha!
Business-Boost & Career-Blessing Puja
Last day of the event, was what everyone was highly anticipating. In the morning was the Business-Boost & Career-Blessing Grand Puja. Many participants brought them company name cards or representative company item for blessings. In order to accomplish great achievements in our business or career, we need to have the merit to support. Without merit, even if a promotion is impending, for some reasons the promotion will go to someone else. Without merit, despite being friendly and nice to others, they do not appreciate and instead find opportunities to pick on you. Without merit, even if you done everything conscienciously, problems crop up at the last moment and affect the whole project. Without merit, even if someone were to recommend a client to you, for some reasons, you will not be able to take up the job. Or even if you have completed a job, you will not be able to receive its payment. Such obstacles seem endless, making the journey feel tough and arduous. I certainly felt and experienced all these obstacles before.
By participating in this puja and making offerings to the 3 Jewels, as well as the surrounding deities, increases our bank of merits. This puja invokes the blessings from all Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Deities and Protectors. When obstacles are cleared, positive conditions in workplace improve, and opportunities for business also increase.

Namtose Wealth & Merit-Increase Puja & Initiation
Day 2 of the event, after attending my friend's daughter birthday party, I proceeded straight to Suntec for the afternoon puja as well as initiation in the evening. It was the Namtose Weath & Merit Increase Grand Puja, followed by Namtose Empowerment. In Buddhism, fortune and wealth refers to "merit", because everything good that we possess is established from merit. Every form of success, every piece of happiness, every kind of enjoyment can only be materialised should there be enough merit to support it. If there is no or insufficient merit, then one encounters many negative conditions and obstacles. Even in the Buddhist path, you also need to practise and fulfill both merit accumulation as well as karma purification to be able to attain Bodhicitta.
Namtose or Vaisravana is a famous protector and wealth deity of Esoteric Buddhism. Eventhough he has achieved supreme Enlightenment since infinite aeons before, he manifested himself as a Bodhisattva with the aim of helping others overcome poverty and misery. He vowed to protect the Dharma and guide all its practitioners in the future aeon. He has promised Buddha Shakyamuni to preserve and protect the teachings of the Buddha. Thus the Namtose puja summons immense positive wealth energies upon the puja participants and can help to change the course of one's financial situation. It was also a great opportunity to accumulate merit, purify negative karma as well as make prayers for all sentient beings to be free from poverty and suffering in this current economic situation.
We could bring along our own blessed consecrated wealth vases from home to recharge wealth blessings and energies during the puja. This is the first time Lati Rinpoche is conferring upon this Namtose blessing initiation which includes the principle Vaisravana as well as his 8-strong retinue. Judging from the thousands of people who turned up, it was a great day.

400 Offerings/Cleansing Puja & Vajrasattva Initiation
I attended the 2 pujas and 1 initiation on the first day of Lati Rinpoche's program - the 400 Grand Offerings & Cleansing Puja as well as the Eliminating-Disease & Subduing-Demonic Forces Grand Puja - and also the Vajrasattva Initiation.
The 400 grand offerings puja was specially passed down by Lord Buddha to subdue the four demons. The offerings include 100 stupas (to overcome the Demon of 5 Contaminated Aggregates), 100 ritual cakes (to conquer the Demon of Desires), 100 light offerings (to eradicate the Demon of Delusion) and 100 human-effigies (to subdue the Demon of Death).
Performing this puja helps significantly in overcoming all major obstacles, prolonged period of bad luck and all negativity, especially those relating to supernatural forces. This puja aids in overcoming charms and spells, pacifies inauspiciousness from small conflicts to major calamities, avoid attacks from plague and other diseases.
The Eliminating-Disease & Subduing Demonic Forces Grand Puja specially clears obstacles to health, dispels all demonic forces, especially those leading to illnesses. This special puja aims to clear obstacles and harm caused by mamo beings. The mamos are impregcatory female spirits from the hungry ghost realm, they invoke curses and imprecations, inflicting plague on living beings as well as harm animals. In our daily lives, we may unknowingly offend the mamos who may cast a spell on humans. Usually it also depends on the individual karma too. Should the person not have sufficient merits, he/she will be more prone to harm from the mamos.
The SARS disease is a kind of plague which would have been caused by the mamos. Lati Rinpoche made a special visit to Singapore on May 2003 to perform a 6-day grand puja to overcome the SARS disease, under the special invitation from Mrs Goh Chok Tong.
Om Benza Sattva Hum!
Yay~
Luckily I went to Lati Rinpoche's event today, the entire day. In the morning and afternoon of pujas and till the last session of Vajrasattva Initiation tonight. I really wanted to purge out all the negativities I have been feeling lately. I needed to recharge my batteries, as I feel really lembek (Malay for 'physically weak'). Plus, mentally weak. The practise of Vajrasattva purifies obstacles. Unless we do purification to eliminate the negativities, our present store of negativities will continue to increase. It is like borrowing a huge sum of money; the interest keeps accumulating.
I made a new friend today. She was sitting next to me, and she was not feeling well. So I offered her the "high class medicated oil" Rich Friend bought for me. She felt slightly better. We chatted and we shared our Dharma experience. And we exchanged Dharma songs via bluetooth. We continued chatting while on the way home. She is such a pleasant girl, soft spoken and very humble. At first I thought she was a foreigner (she looks like a Korean celebrity). She said we both 有缘 to be friends. And I agree. So I am happy to have found a new friend today.

Beads
These are what my mom does in her free time - making beads. She has tried making necklaces, watches, ear rings, bracelets, rings etc... I have a few items she made, which I like, like flower ring, and the angel handphone strip. My mom does many of the items for school fun fairs, or charity fund raising, and she sold to the school or others almost at cost. That means she did not make any profit of the beads she made. Other times, she would make all the aunts and nieces in the family some items for special occasions like christmases or gatherings. Or she will give to her friends. My mom is a generous person, she will give to others most willingly within her means. And she never think of making any money for her efforts. Her other hobbies are flower arrangement, baking cakes and cookies, and she likes to go aqua aerobics or yoga. She is a pretty much hands-on person. And I think she is happy doing all these. What more can you ask for a retired lady in her mid 60s? So long she is happy.

The ox is coming

Tai Sui is also known as the Great Duke Jupiter. When translated from Chinese, the Tai Sui is known as the Yearly God. Tai Sui is the most powerful "Earthly God". There is a total of 60 Tai Sui. Each year, there would be a new Yearly God on duty looking after all matters on earth. His appointment would commence on the 1st solar term or called li chun, in Chinese. And the next would take over the task on the following li chun.
Each year there will be some zodiac sign that has opposing forces with the Tai Sui. These zodiac sign are said to suffer some form of bad fortune. The negative impact differs from people to people depending on individual birth data. It can be classified under offend, clash or conflict formation with the Tai Sui.
So the purpose of the goat pendant, when worn on a Goat person, that Ox next year will clash that goat in the pendant, instead of the person herself. So the Goat person will have a smoother Ox year. Just my little gesture to help ensure my mom and aunt have a smoother year ahead.
Naked Nua-fy
I saw Rich Friend's Muffy last night, just after his haircut (see pix on the left). My God, Muffy looks so scrawny without his usual fluffy hair. He looked such a pitiful poor thing without his usual comfort "blanket", don't you think so? Can't wait till his hair grow again in about 2 months' time.He is the most quietest dog I have ever seen, meaning he does not even bark at all. People would think he is mute. He is just so calm and quiet, and not hyperactive at all, preferring to just lie down and relax ALL THE TIME. When you bring him for a walk, while other dogs would be walking rushing excitedly in front of their owners, Rich Friend has to drag Muffy along, because he is always tagging behind slowly, walking reluctantly, sometimes even braking suddenly to lie down. He is the most "nua" (lazy and inert) dog I have ever seen, perhaps just like his owner....

Start of the day
Most importantly I just want to make sure I start the day on the right foot. I do tend to compare my face on different days and analyse, did everything go smoothly for the day when I look bright and chirpy or did something happen during the day when I looked tired and down with poor energy. Just an inkling of how to foresee stuff in order I can improve the good or prevent the bad. Normally I feel I do look my best immediately when I wake up compared to later part of the day.

Come fly with me~

I am a sucker for scenery. Although ours is the city skyline, it's still somewhat breathtaking with panoramic views. I snapped and snapped away, the flyer capsules in different angles, the skyline all around me ; the Tanjong Rhu condos with highways, the East Coast golf course, the Suntec - Marina buildings, the Esplanade, the Merlion and the floating stadium, the Central Business District in Shenton Way, the Benjamin Sheares Bridge etc... And the special thing was, when we reached a certain angle, we can even see an almost actual replica of the new future Marina Bay Integrated Resorts in the skyline - cleverly created to blend into our city skyline. We saw what the future holds (*chuckle*).
It's a GR8 experience, if you consider $29.50 worth all the views you can take in within 30 minutes. As I was up there, couldn't help remembering the song by Michael Buble "Come fly with me".....
Once I get you up there,
Where the air is rarefied
Well just glide
Starry eyed
Once I get you up there
I'll be holding you so near
You may hear the angels cheer - just because we're together
Weatherwise it's such a lovely day
Just say the words, and we'll beat the birds
Down to acapulco bay
It's perfect, for a flying honeymoon - they say
Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away
Haw Par Villa
When my cousin from Bangkok was in town the past week, I brought her to the Haw Par Villa in Pasir Panjang, used to be known as the Tiger Balm Gardens about 60 years ago. I remember my Grandfather used to bring me to this place when I was a kid. It is a park furnished with clusters of statues and figurines that depict intriguing stories of ancient Chinese mythology, legends and values. Although the place has been re-furbished, I find it to be depilated and uninviting, as the statues seemed badly needed maintenance. One of the highlights was the '10 Courts of Hell'. It tells of the intriguing Chinese mythology of life after death through the display of colourful mythological statues and figurines. The origins of the '10 Courts of Hell' is believed to be based on the Indian Buddhist legend of the 'World of Suffering' (世间苦难) where one would be punished in 'Hell' for sins committed in one's present life. The concept of 'one reaps what one sows' and 'cause and effect' (善有善报,恶有恶报)depicted in the '10 Courts of Hell' is the central tenet that serves to restrain anti-social, unethical or immoral behaviour. Each court depict the various torture chambers to penalize evil-doers. Different methods and severity of punishments were meted out based on one's past deeds (Note: pictures not for the faint hearted).

Remembering Andrew

Veg wrote "I remember telling my friends that when I go to heaven, I want to be the angel that plays the harp. Whenever I think of Andrew or even dreamed about him, its the same bright lit open space with him toddling away in a delightful manner, giggling uncontrollably. Now, I cannot help myself but to call after him: 'Go now, baby, go play your harp'. (=>)

Kopi or me?

Nowadays, I cannot do that anymore. I only contain myself to drink one or two cups in the morning. I try not to have any after lunch onwards. The sole reason is I will not be able to sleep in the night if I have even a sip in the afternoon! It has happened many times, that I have counted sheep in the night into the wee hours of dawn. By morning I would wake up totally shagged and totally sleep deprived. I wonder why the power of caffeine takes its toil on me the older I get. So, as much as I love coffee, and still does, I can only have it in moderation now.
A little unusual

Rediscovering the passion
I would like to think after the past 6 months, as I sat down to ponder, I know I have experienced many ups and downs, probably more than what I had encountered in my entire life. Some dreams were shattered, friendships lost, got to know some acquaintances who turned out to have betrayed me, while other prospects were not as rosy as it was promised. I too gave up a friendship which has caused me extreme pain and disbelief. I found there were many misunderstandings with people which are unfounded. I found myself to have greater courage to walk away from all the bad stuff, rather than to procrastinate, and made myself even sadder.
My relationship with a close cousin soured because of misunderstandings, due to our differences in character as well as external parties who leveraged on this, and widened the gap between us. Once we discovered the person who caused us this rift, our relationship improved, albeit not back to the norm yet. I am still indignant that both of us did not have enough trust in each other that we allowed other cunning parties to take the opportunity to spoil our relationship. However, I believe blood is thicker than water. We may not be ready to get back to what we used to be, but at least we are prepared to move on from this misunderstanding.
As for the external party who was a culprit, I finally saw his true colours because ...wham!... his fox tail appeared (or was it the Rat's tail this year?). He was just someone who was putting on a facade for everyone, in order to gain control and manipulate situations and people to benefit himself. Worse, if these ways were used in a corporate working environment, it made me wonder how long can hooliganistic style prevail in running a business, especially in a country like Singapore which preaches rules and order.
I lost a friend due to misunderstandings and misplaced trust, this friend whom I doted more than anything else, and sadly, only I know that. This friend whom I trusted and shared many of my dreams and beliefs. I place friendships above anything else, especially those who matter to me, even more so than myself. For friends I love, I would go the extra mile to help or care, even though I may be in dire straits myself. All that matters to me was, these friends know how deeply concern I am. But if all my efforts are thrown down the drain, then I am crushed. Like I was advised, I should not be too nice to people sometimes.
Whilst all the downs, I like to be thankful for this past 6 months. I found I am equally adaptable and flexible to any job in all areas and all levels. With my many years of experience, I can switch roles rather easily. So that gives me the edge over others who only specialise in one area. And I have the support of many clients, new and old, who are ready to support me wherever I go. Many companies do not recognise that the human touch is more crucial in long term business development, hence they do not value their staff, especially those who are facing clients everyday. Clients are clients because they trust the people who service them, and seldom because of the big boss who sits behind the scenes, immuned to the voices of the clients.
I found that I have few other close friends who still care about me, despite my failures, despite my moody outbursts, despite my insensitivities. These are friends who have stood by me for the past few decades. I found my buddies were the ones who readily helped me in handling my emotions, and sometime inferiority perplexes, as well as my despondent moments.
I am thankful that my family members are all well and good, they are healthy and happy in our daily lives. They are my pillar of support during bad times, although they may not be aware of that. Their presence meant a lot, even if we do not talk about the bad stuff.
I am glad that I can turn to the Buddha at times when I am down, my pillar of strength. How much we suffer in this life or past lives all have impact on our future lives. We can only help ourselves to be better, to gain the enlightenment. Buddha can't help us if we do not help ourselves. I believe in having the faith in Buddha as well as acting to remove my obstacles as much as possible, can alleviate my obscurations and a better karma, for a better future life/lives.
I am geared towards a better me, rediscovering the passion again...

The Left & The Right
"Seed of Special Affinity" Program

Rinpoche is a foremost Buddhist scholar of excellent repute, a fully accomplished Master and is deeply respected by devotees all over the world.
As Rinpoche is already 87 years old, such overseas Dharma programs are unlikely in future, hence we strongly encourage all to cherish this precious Dharma affinity, and without a doubt, it is certainly a big blessing for us to attend the pujas, initiations and teachings conferred specially by Rinpoche.

My snaps
These photos were snapped by me whenever I am out anywhere anytime .... on tour, on the road.... everywhere. I like photography since I was young. And especially when I am overseas, I like to take pictures of people, their expressions, their poses, places, and objects from certain angles. My works may be amateurish but it gives me a sense of satisfaction, like a hobby.
Ku Chai Kueh
Being a half Teochew, I like this Teochew snack alot - Ku Chai Kueh. It is steamed cakes with chives inside, wrapped in the shape of a curry puff. My whole extended family of typical Teochews also likes this kueh.My grandma in her younger days likes to make this kueh. But the effort is tremendous. First she needs to prepare the ingredients which are chives and mushrooms and pork. All are chopped into tiny pieces, and stir fried. Then it is the kneading the flour into elastic dough. Afterwards, each piece of dough is flattened and wrapped with the ingredients, and then steamed.
We like it steamed straight from the stove, and goes well with garlic chilli and sweet black sauce. Sometimes, my grandma will stir fry the kueh lightly so that it is slightly crispy which is very fragrant. Not many people likes the smell and taste of chives or the ku chai. But our family loves it!

Planting the seed of affinity
This morning I am so happy to receive the newsletter "In The Loop of Bliss" and programme for Lati Rinpoche's upcoming events in Drophenling center as well as Suntec grand event.
This year's event is entitled "The Seed of Special Affinity With Buddha Maitreya". One of the main highlights of this Grand Puja which Rinpoche has personally expressed to confer, is the Buddha Maitreya Six-Element 1000 Offerings Grand Puja and Initiation. Rinpoche wishes that all devotees will be able to plant the seed for special affinity to be created with the Lord Maitreya, the future Buddha. When all conditions fulfill, this seed will ripen and we will have the special affinity to meet and become the close disciples of Buddha Maitreya, be able to receive teachings directly and attain the unparalleled Bodhicitta state of mind.
And this initiation coincided with the recent adoption of my new second name, Triya ( which I derived from Maitreya). I think this will be my first Buddha Maitreya initiation. I had my first BUddha Shakyamuni initiation from Lati Rinpoche a few years ago and I can testify on the potent power of Rinpoche and Lord Shakyamuni. Not any ordinary monk can give the initiation of Shakyamuni and Maitreya. Only qualified masters who have received the unbroken lineage of these Buddhas are allowed to confer initiation ceremonies. Hence when initiated by qualifed gurus, you receive the blessings of your Master and the Buddha, as well as the blessings of the whole unbroken lineage which traces back to Buddha's time.
I am so looking forward to Rinpoche's arrival tomorrow morning, and tonight's special puja for him.
"It is like planting a seed, whereby later with the right conditions, the seed will ripen, sprout and grow into Buddhahood."

Lati Rinpoche is coming!
Belonging to a very rare class of scholar, saint and practitioner who completed his training in an independent Tibet, in 1959 Rinpoche followed His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama into exile, where he continued to spread the Dharma by teachings at various monasteries and schools.
Rinpoche has authored many important books in Tibetan Buddhism including: Death, Intermediate State and Rebirth, Mind in Tibetan Buddhism, and Meditative States in Tibetan Buddhism. Currently, Lati Rinpoche continues a rigorous teaching schedule at Gaden Monastery where he has been appointed tutor to many of the young Rinpoches by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
May Lati Rinpoche live long and continue to spread the teachings of the Buddha for the sake of all beings.

Rejoice

Dharamshala, October 6 – Doctors and researchers at the Drepung monastery were amazed to witness a rare spectacle in the south Indian Tibetan settlement of Mungod. His Eminence Lobsang Nyima, the former Gaden Tripa, who passed away on September 14, stayed in Thukdham for 18 days, till 1st October. Note: The Ganden Tripa or Gaden Tripa ("Holder of the Ganden Throne") is the title of the spiritual leader of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, and the throne holder of Lama Tsongkhapa.
Thukdham, as per Tibetan Buddhist Tantric practice, is explained as a stage in which a highly learned lama or practitioner with his life time practice of meditation is able to meditate on the ‘Clear Light Stage’, an ultimate process of inner dissolution of five elements and consciousness. The practitioners, while in Thukdham, are able to control their body from decomposition and to maintain the internal body heat.
Tenzin Namdul, a Tibetan doctor at the Men-Tsee-Khang, and Dr. Yangzom Dolker of Delek hospital, were sent to Mundgod, South India to scientifically investigate the effect of Thukdham on Trisur Rinpoche's body. Thukdham project was initiated last December in collaboration with Dr. Richard Davidson's brain imaging laboratory at University of Wisconsin under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, says Dr. Namdul. The doctors measured the effect of Thukdham on Rinpoche's body through EEG, ECG and body temperature using latest scientific equipment.
Tibetans as well as Indians thronged Drepung for Rinpoche’s blessing. A team of researchers and scientists from Swami Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation from Bangalore arrived to witness what they later termed as a "scientific breakthrough in the effect of intense meditation". Another team of senior doctors and neuroscientists from Belgaum’s KLES Prabhakar Kore Hospital where Rinpoche breathed his last also arrived to witness the spectacle.
“The doctors commented this is something they need to see to believe and now that they have witnessed it, they said they are simply surprised and speechless. Both the team expressed strong desire in initiating a collaborative project on this important and complex subject”, Dr. Namdul said.
Some say that longer period of meditation will prolong the arrival of his reincarnation. Dalai Lama had asked the attendants of Gaden Trisur to allow the mediation to continue. Earlier, the Tibetan leader had said that scientists should examine the state of thukdham of Tibetan masters and Lamas.
Under guidance of Dalai Lama, Trisur Rinpoche's body will be mummified so that people can have his audience and be blessed by his presence, Dr. Namdul said.

Cities I've Been To
From Facebook I added in all the places I have been to under the application "Cities I've Been To" and I didn't know I have been to 56 cities in 21 countries, as shown from the blue flags. The green arrows show where I would like to go, for eg. Osaka Japan, Las Vegas USA, Africa, Nepal, and Scotland. The red dots are some of my favourite destinations - Switzerland, England, France and Turkey. I am hit by travel bug for the longest time this year, been longing to go holidays but can't due to work commitment, and with the recession now setting in, how to go? Sunday, 5 October 2008
What's in a bag?

While I was packing my bag earlier, decided to do a Straits Times' Urban column aka."Whats in a bag?" where celebrities were made to show what stuff they normally carry with them. Here is what's in mine:1. Rabeanco handbag. I like the big roomy leather bag in earthy colour. It even comes with a big pouch so that my stuff won't swim inside the bag. Great for shopping or office sometimes, as it can hold my small laptop as well. Actually, I have many bags which I change about often, so I won't say this is exactly my favourite bag.
2. Nokia E71 handphone. This is my new mobile phone, which is something I cannot leave home without, as I am on standby for calls from clients as well as The Boss. E71 always allows me to check emails on the go or chat on MSN or view photos I snapped. It's my alarm clock, my organiser, directory, MP3 player all rolled into one. I am a handphone freak, always changing phones and this is my latest addition.
3. Acer Aspire One. My blue 8.9" laptop is my working and walking office now. It accompanies me to office or when I am outside doing presentations to clients. And its 6-cell battery has a long battery life of 5 hours, so there is no need to bring the charger with me. I am waiting for Acer to bring in new stock of the 3-cell battery as well as to allow me to upgrade the RAM from 1GB to 2GB.
4. Radley collection. As blogged earlier, I have bought this red Radley leather wallet and coin purse as well as a card holder recently, together with my friends. Each of us bought a different colour combination. I am waiting for a red Radley key pouch but it is not available in this collection. Why red? Because its my lucky colour.
5. Bonia key pouch. I am still using my old Bonia key pouch which was a set with my previous wallet and handbag. I attached a nice souvenir inside the key pouch which is a doggie coin. This coin is the size of our one-dollar coin, and it comes in handy in supermarkets where I can use it to slot into the trolley.
6. Paris Miki spectacles. I have 2 spectacles - one red, one beige. Depending on the colour combination of my attire each day, I will bring one out. I realised the shape and pattern of my specs are quite similar and identical. I guess I look best in these 2 pairs of specs compared to other designs.
7. Aldo sunglasses. This is my godsend, and it's pretty worn out - the case I mean. I normally wear Aviator sunglasses and I have been wearing this pair for the past 2-3 years. I will wear it till I find another Aviator sunglass, I guess. I need sunglasses to protect my eyes, and for times when I develop sudden food/drug allergies, as the first area which will hit me are my eyes which will become swollen.
8. Pierre Cardin cosmetic pouch. It took me a long time to find the cosmetic pouch with the right size and design. With this black plain one, I guess my taste is pretty conservative, but it allows me to put all my little stuff inside. Among the little items inside this pouch, I have the L'occitane hand mosturiser which smell heavenly. And the other is Origins Peace of Mind. It's a perk-me-up cream which is superb for mid-day sleepiness or headaches. Both are gifts from Rich Friend. We call this the "high class hong you" (chinese medicated oil) because the minty smell is so effective. Both are also my weapons to ward off smelly taxis or people or stuffy places which stink.
9. Maroon card holder. This contains all my credit cards and discount cards and membership cards etc... I have about 20 of them so this is very useful as it keeps me organised.
10. Buddha's blessings. This little pouch contains all the buddha's items I received from Rinpoches or monks. They are special because they are all blessed and consecrated. My Yamantaka ruel serves as a strong protection too, against unwanted stuff.
The Shoe that breathes
As it was the last day of sale, most shoes and sizes were sold out. So when I found the heels with my size, I grabbed it. It was standard heels for work, so I chose the safe colour of black. The 2nd pair I chose brown (which was lower heels and can be for both casual and work). The red one did not have my size anymore. Rich Friend who has bought hers in a sale from HK, testified it was good, as she had a problem with sweaty feet as well. Underneath are perforated soles where the holes allow sweat and moisture to be purged out. So I am happy with my warehouse buy, my first 2 pairs of GEOX, each costing $99, about a third or half of what was the normal retail price. :)

Radley!

Its price is on the mid range but its packaging and cute designs are endearing. Radley has a wide range of purses, wallets, coin purses, card holders, passport holders, jewelley boxes, cosmetic pouches, handphone pouches, and a even wider range of handbags, workbags and even luggages. In addition they have sunglasses, umbrellas and key rings. Among my friends, we have bought a few of such items, since we are all dog lovers, and the Scottie is simply too cute to resist.
