Against all odds

A song of yester-years... about departure, waiting, good byes, pain of losing someone,  regrets, and..... impermanence.

"You want to know what happiness is? Look for pain and when you find the pain and begin to see it lessening, you'll find happiness. If you keep looking for happiness, you are not going to find it." - Gelek Rinpoche

How can I just let you walk away, just let you leave without a trace
When I stand here taking every breath with you, ooh
You're the only one who really knew me at all
How can you just walk away from me, when all I can do is watch you leave
Cos we've shared the laughter and the pain and even shared the tears
You're the only one who really knew me at all
So take a look at me now, oh there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me, just the memory of your face
Ooh take a look at me now, well there's just an empty space
And you coming back to me is against the odds

And that's what I've got to face
I wish I could just make you turn around, turn around and see me cry
There's so much I need to say to you, so many reasons why
You're the only one who really knew me at all
So take a look at me now, well there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me, just the memory of your face
Now take a look at me now, cos there's just an empty space
But to wait for you, is all I can do and that's what I've got to face
Take a good look at me now, cos I'll still be standing here
And you coming back to me is against all odds
It's the chance I've gotta take
Take a look at me now.

A closer look at the growing relics of Khensur Rinpoche Lama Lhundrup, an amazing blessing!

The Sangha in Kopan Monastery are still pretty busy, collecting and checking meticulously each of the holy relics that have emanated  after Khensur Rinpoche Lama Lhundrup's cremation. Indeed, the relics are simply too many and they are reportedly still growing by the day.

Here is a closer look at the amazing holy relics found after Lama Lhundrup's cremation. I am dumbfounded, totally amazed by the beautiful sheer sight of these relics as they are revealed..... And these are just some of them, more will be revealed soon. Om ah hum benza guru padma siddhi hung!

Note: In my over excitement earlier on seeing the holy relics, I forgot to credit a Dharma brother, Benny Soh, for his kindness in sharing all the precious precious photos shown below. Thanks Benny!

Lama Zopa Rinpoche said that Lama Lhundrup did not manifest any of the 5 elements absorption of the death process before his passing and Lama Lhundrup's last words to Lama Zopa Rinpoche, his guru, were "I do not exist", uttered in English repeatedly 3 times. Lama Zopa Rinpoche said this was a sign of a very accomplished practitioner.  Lama Zopa Rinpoche has given instructions to build a Mahabodhi Stupa and a Statue of Lama Lhundrup as soon as possible for his unmistaken swift reincarnation to return which will definitely happen very soon.

I know a dharma friend of mine is devastated by the leaving of  the physical body of Lama Lhundrup, who was her heart guru. She once shared with me about Lama Lhundrup, who was also her refuge guru too. She said she was chatting with Lama Lhundrup, and she kept telling him, "Rinpoche, you are my guru" as she was very close to him. However,  each time, Lama Lhundrup would reply, "No, I am not your guru. Your guru is Lama Zopa Rinpoche."  Although she was a little saddened by her guru's words, but she realised Lama Lhundrup's deep devotion to his guru, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, and she knows Lama Lhundrup said those words to her in order to teach her about guru devotion.

We do not weep because of the passing of a guru. Instead, we celebrate and rejoice at his attainments by witnessing physically his relics, the signs of a greatly realised practitioner.  I know Lama Lhundrup would be coming back very soon because many of his disciples and students would be waiting for their guru to return to continue turning the Wheel of Dharma. And that is what great Bodhisattvas do, always coming back, taking rebirth again and again, in order to lead sentient beings away from samsara and suffering.

The next incarnation of the Dalai Lama is....

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama just released a statement yesterday 24 Sept 2011 about  the issue of his reincarnation.  This came about after His Holiness attended the 11th Bi-annual Conference of religious leaders from the different schools of Tibetan Buddhism and Bon tradition held in Dharamsala, India, on 23 Sept 2011.

It is a very lengthy statement in which he gave brief explanation/teachings about rebirth, the meaning of tulkus, the lineage of the Dalai Lamas and Panchen Lamas, and his decision on his reincarnation when he dies.  This was in terse response to the Chinese Government, which announced in March 2011 that China has to approve all reincarnations of living Buddhas, or senior religious figures in Tibetan Buddhism. It also says China has to sign off on the choosing of the next Dalai Lama. Some worry that once the Dalai Lama dies, China will simply appoint its own successor (just as they did in the case of the Panchen Lama), raising the possibility of there being two Dalai Lamas - one recognized by China and the other chosen by exiles or with the blessing of the current Dalai Lama. When I heard China's revelation at that time, I found  it incredulously unbelievable that China, the world's largest country with a majority of its population Buddhists, does not understand the concept of rebirth, or rather, reincarnation of a Living Buddha. Do they (China) think that His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the living Bodhisattva Chenrezig (Guan Yin), the Compassion Buddha, does not have the ability/power to choose his own next rebirth???

I am very glad that His Holiness has decided to release this official statement. Below is an excerpt of the last and most important paragraph of His Holiness' statement.....

The next incarnation of the Dalai Lama

As I mentioned earlier, reincarnation is a phenomenon which should take place either through the voluntary choice of the concerned person or at least on the strength of his or her karma, merit and prayers. Therefore, the person who reincarnates has sole legitimate authority over where and how he or she takes rebirth and how that reincarnation is to be recognized. It is a reality that no one else can force the person concerned, or manipulate him or her. It is particularly inappropriate for Chinese communists, who explicitly reject even the idea of past and future lives, let alone the concept of reincarnate Tulkus, to meddle in the system of reincarnation and especially the reincarnations of the Dalai Lamas and Panchen Lamas. Such brazen meddling contradicts their own political ideology and reveals their double standards. Should this situation continue in the future, it will be impossible for Tibetans and those who follow the Tibetan Buddhist tradition to acknowledge or accept it.

When I am about ninety, I will consult the high Lamas of the Tibetan Buddhist traditions, the Tibetan public, and other concerned people who follow Tibetan Buddhism, and re-evaluate whether the institution of the Dalai Lama should continue or not. On that basis we will take a decision. If it is decided that the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama should continue and there is a need for the Fifteenth Dalai Lama to be recognized, responsibility for doing so will primarily rest on the concerned officers of the Dalai Lama’s Gaden Phodrang Trust. They should consult the various heads of the Tibetan Buddhist traditions and the reliable oath-bound Dharma Protectors who are linked inseparably to the lineage of the Dalai Lamas. They should seek advice and direction from these concerned beings and carry out the procedures of search and recognition in accordance with past tradition. I shall leave clear written instructions about this. Bear in mind that, apart from the reincarnation recognized through such legitimate methods, no recognition or acceptance should be given to a candidate chosen for political ends by anyone, including those in the People’s Republic of China.

Those little mystical orbs of blessings

I'm a little excited. Below are photos of my personal simple mini altar in my room where I do my daily prayers. I took the photos on separate occasions. Have you notice the mystical orbs? Although I snapped many photos in the same position on a few occasions, the little orb appear only once each time. Some are quite faint. It is believed that when there are sightings of mystical orbs near holy objects or holy places, there are some divine presence or auspicious and protective energies around. I have witnessed this many times in holy places. Now I'm so happy to have captured these in my own home. All the photos and objects on my altar have been blessed or consecrated and given to me by my gurus.

These are some of my humble yet precious holy objects on my little DIY altar which I respect and venerate with devotion. They may not be very big in size or expensive, however they aid me in my visualisation and prayers, and they are a source of inspiration to me. And they are imbued with great blessings from my gurus.

Having said that, I may add that even if we possess the most beautiful and most expensive statues and thangkas of the Buddhas, or the most elaborate holy objects made with the most precious materials of the best quality, yet the most valuable and precious would still be keeping close to your heart, the teachings of the gurus and the Three Jewels, and putting the teachings into practice. This would invite even greater blessings from  the gurus and the Buddhas.

May you be inspired to start your Dharma practice today.
