Kyabje Lati Rinpoche - Preparing For Cremation

Day 7 of Rinpoche's passing. Updates from representatives of Gaden Shartse Drophenling who are in Gaden Shartse Monastery in Mundgod India:

Rinpoche's FIRE PUJA is confirmed to be held on Monday, 19th April, early in the morning 7am India time. An estimated 5,000 monks from Gaden Shartse, Jangtse and neighbouring monasteries/nunneries will come by for Rinpoche's final rites and cremation. In the evening of 19 April, a Grand Puja & Tsog Offering will be conducted.
Lati Rinpoche's holy body is placed here, with many karta offerings from monks, students and devotees. Do make strong requests wherever you are too, while looking at this blessed photo, for Rinpoche's swift return.
Lati Rinpoche's close student and High Lama reincarnate, HE Kyabje Zong Rinpoche and a few most senior old Geshes and lead chanter conducted a puja for Rinpoche's swift return. Outside the room, many many more monks continue praying...
DPL members from Singapore paid their respects to Lati Rinpoche's holy body immediately upon their arrival and thereafter every morning. Rinpoche's personal assistant, Sopon-la, also led members into Rinpoche's audience/meditation room. This is the room where Rinpoche would meet his students whenever they visited Lati Ladrang. While monks continue their prayers outside, DPL members spent some time praying in the room, meditating and basking in Rinpoche's powerful energy.
Concurrently while prayers at Lati Ladrang continues, grand pujas are also being held at the main prayer hall of the monastery. About a thousand monks came together in the hall to make prayers for Rinpoche day and night, throughout every hour.
Leading the prayers is the incumbent Abbot of Gaden Shartse Monastery, Khen Rinpoche Jangchup Choeden. Khen Rinpoche cancelled his Dharma program in New York and flew back immediately upon hearing news of Lati Rinpoche's passing into Nirvana.
Elsewhere in Lati Ladrang and around the monastery, prayers continue 24 hours round the clock, with different groups of monks praying at different parts of the monastery, for Rinpoche's swiftest return. Inside Lati Ladrang's prayer hall - pujas are being conducted by all the most senior old Geshes of the monastery. 78-year-old Geshe Ngawang Longtho said he did not need to rest, as he wanted to do prayers throughout the day. Different groups of monks, each group comprising of 150 monks, recited prayers for 4 hours each session round the clock. DPL members are deeply touched by all the monks' devotion and great respect towards Rinpoche. DPL members, in turn, made offerings to all the Sangha for their dedication. Should you like to share the merit and make some offerings to the 5000 monks, you can contact DPL at 63449521 as soon as possible.
Geshe Wangchuk, together with a group of monks, is in charge of the building of the stupa for Rinpoche's fire puja on Monday 19 April.

Today, Sunday 18 April is the first 7th day of Rinpoche's passing into Nirvana. We should be deeply grateful and be thankful to Lati Rinpoche for this most wonderful and great opportunity to collect such bountiful merits as his students and followers, by offering dedications and prayers to him. It is especially important on this day to make strong requests and prayers for Rinpoche's immediate rebirth.

The devoted monks in the monastery have been a great source of inspiration to students elsewhere around the world. Just like in the Monastery, DPL Singapore has been conducting the Guru Puja & Tsog Offering for the past 7 days. Do join the monks for the final puja today in DPL at 7.30pm, and to create a strong link with Rinpoche when he returns. Om mani padme hum!

  1. Seeing Rinpoche wrapped in pink and purple made me smile. I constantly appreciate reminders that whether I perceive something as painful or whimsical, it's always a Dharma teaching.

Thank you for sharing this series of posts re: Rinpoche.
